As you probably know, Asia is a pretty big place. A big, tasty place with tons of lovely food! Luckily, much of this food has made its way to Canberra, and we’ve found the very best. Dig in!
Chinese
Bambusa
Warm, inviting and filled with lovely staff, Bambusa is the friendliest Chinese restaurant in the ACT. The food’s not half bad either, and the menu is brimming with Cantonese classics and a few more exotic options to entice the brave (we love the Shang Tung Lamb, and we’re pretty sure you will too). The wine list is good too, so settle in and raise your glass with a hearty gānbēi!
“A great restaurant to enjoy Chinese cuisine. I found the food to be delicious. The water feature inside is good too, and adds nicely to the ambience. There is seating outside and a reasonable number of seats in the restaurant. The large glass windows at the front offer a great view of Manuka while you dine. Recommended” – consuma
Japanese
Iori
You might already be familiar with Iori. It’s a Canberra pioneer in the art of Japanese fine dining, and it’s won enough awards to fill several tanker trucks (big ones). The food here is authentic, richly flavoured and impeccably prepared, and simply won’t be beaten anywhere else in town. It’s hard to pick a favourite, but the pan-fried Tasmanian salmon in teriyaki sauce stakes a pretty serious claim.
“The best Japanese restaurant in Canberra, and the quality is always so good. Their soft shell crab and wagyu beef are my favourites. Best to make a book because they are always so busy!” – Qinnie Wang
Korean
Hangari Kimchi
A classic Korean barbeque joint with a cooktop on every table, Hangari Kimchi is an awesome place to head if you’re looking for a fun and lively dinner. Grab a Hite beer and try the traditional Ddeokbokki, which is Korean rice cakes cooked in a yummy chilli sauce. We can’t help you with the pronunciation, unfortunately, but we can wish you good luck in Korean. Ready? Haeng un!

Vietnamese
Tu Do Vietnamese
If you haven’t already, you should definitely make a point of adding this place to your Tu Do list (sorry). It’s a pleasantly low-key Vietnamese restaurant that lets the food speak for itself, and we can assure you that it practically sings! If you’ve never been before, the signature dishes are a great place to start. Go for the Steamed Rice with Pork Chops & Crabmeat Plate, and prepare to smile.
“True that eat in isn’t always the best plan if you want a quiet meal, but if you want absolutely incredible Vietnamese food then this hits the nail on the head. Get takeaway and eat as a picnic on the lake – perfect night out!” – stella_canberra
Thai
Thip’s Thai
“Why not put a little SPICE in your life?” asks the Thip’s Thai sign as you stroll inside. Why not indeed! This spacious eatery brings the true flavours of Thailand to Canberra’s hungry bellies, and does so with a real sense of culinary flair. Your choices are many, but we’d highly suggest the Panang Curry. It’s absolutely delicious, and never fails to impress.
