These days, it seems like you can tell a lot about a city by what lurks down its alleyways. As you’ll soon discover, Perth is hiding some pretty juicy secrets! Here are the coolest laneways in town.
Sneaky Tony’s
Sneaky Tony’s certainly lives up to its name. In fact, it’s so sneaky that you need to get a password off its Facebook page before you can even get in. It’s definitely worth the effort, however, and the staff will make you feel like a true celebrity from the moment you step inside. Try the Pink Rum, made from white Barbados rum, prosecco, Angostura, and their own special fig liqueur.

Toastface Grillah
Nope, we did not make that up. There really is a place in Perth called “Toastface Grillah”. What an age we live in. Anyway, as you can probably guess, this funky, grungy little joint serves up some incredible gourmet toasties. If you’re not sure which to go for first, we’d recommend the one with gouda cheese, ham, onion and apple. Get it to go, or eat in and soak up the ambience.
Let us know what you think of Toastface Grillah right here. Heheh, no matter how many times you say it, it never gets old. “Toastface Grillah”.
Ezra Pound
One of Perth’s original small bars, Ezra Pound has been around long enough to have truly owned its niche. Its décor takes cues from the 1920s prohibition era, and the staff are some of the most knowledgeable booze-dispensers in the game. It’s a great place to sample something new, such as the tangy “Monkey Gland”. That’s gin, absinthe, anise, orange juice, and house-made grenadine.

The Laneway Lounge
This one might seem an obvious inclusion, but that doesn’t make it any less worthy. The Laneway Lounge combines antique elegance, live jazz and European cuisine to form a very agreeable venue indeed. From the vintage chairs to the opulent curtains, it’s a lovely setting for a nibble and a sip of something tasty. Speaking of which, make sure you give the minty, gingery, Pampero-filled Sherbet Mojito a taste.
“This ‘joint’ is cool; it’s eclectic, modern, kitsch, vintage and yet not at all pretentious!! The music is easy, soulful, powerful yet not overpowering. The cocktails are vibrant and oh so addictive. The food was delectable and we gorged ourselves with a variety of tapas! My husband and I left this venue feeling tipsy, full and completely satisfied. This place is the best place in Perth!!” – Nicwheeler
Cheeky Sparrow
With its marble bar, lush carpets, nesty lampshades and plushy seats, Cheeky Sparrow is two whole storeys of gorgeous comfort. The massively stocked drinks shelf is a joy to behold, and the pizzas here are something else. We’d suggest ordering up the Roasted Chicken one, with red onion, apricot sauce, coriander, spring onion and real mozzarella. How could you go wrong?
