One of Sydney's oldest and favourite Greek restaurants. Alpha is a big open space with efficient service, tasty Greek beers and wines, and most of all (of course) delicious meals. Recommend sharing. Price point is mid range and as expected for a vebue Standouts included the Greek Lamb (duh) and the hummus with black tahini. Very glad to have finally tried it!
Chic apron-clad staff exude effortless cool. They’re confident in the menu, and they should be – parts of it, like the Scallop Moussaka ($27), have stood the test of time. To think I could have been eating this clever dish, with rounds of tomato-topped eggplant sandwiching seared scallops glued together with a smear of standout Taramosalata ($12) (also available in dip form with addictive, house-made pita bread), back in 1993. More fool me.
Never heard of Alpha until now
A nice fancy restaurant with a modern look and dim lighting
Ordered the banquet
The dips were a mixed experience
Out of the three choices, only the taramasalata impressed,I just like the fishy taste
Haloumi is better than expected, the nuts on too just made it better
Spanakopita was ok,when I just had the pastry itself,it just reminded me a meat pie pastry
The meat,better than expected
The chicken had more flavour than expected and I liked the lamb, but on that dish you could see all the oil from the meat on it
The tzakiki had too much dill in it
The baklava was not to my liking. It just didn't have the sweetness like you have it from other places
Staff were great, friendly and explaining each dish
Enjoyed my experience here, worth a try
This was amazing. The whole experience. The service was really personable; our waiter picked a great wine to go with our meal. The food was divine. We had the felafel balls, chips, haloumi and the meatballs. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs but we did a great job attempting to finish all of the food.
I absolutely love eating at Alpha! I'm so lucky that my office is only a short walk down the road and we often come here for business lunches.
The food is wonderful. I would recommend everything on the menu - pita bread with tzatziki, baked feta, haloumi cheese, oysters, lamb shoulder, moussaka - seriously, everything. The wine list is also very comprehensive, including local and Greek wines. I first tried the Josef Chromy botrytis riesling dessert wine at Alpha and I can't get enough...
I think I prefer eating at Alpha for lunch rather than dinner. They dim the lights to create an intimate atmosphere at night, but I actually like it when the natural light floods the restaurant and it creates a Greek island resort feel. The decor / furniture / feature wall really add to the experience.
Service is also friendly and helpful. Shout out to Melissa who has great recommendations for the wine!
