This pub was a bit classy, but not too classy as to put me off somewhat. In part it did feel like it was the front bar of one of those fancy hotels, but then again it also seemed to be a pub in and of itself. However, despite the feeling that it was a bit of a classy establishment, the place was still rather relaxing and laid back, and there were even some nice beers on tap as well, which does tend to attract me a but more.
Have heard a lot of buzz about this place so I thought it was about time that I go and see what the fuss is about. I was not disappointed, really nice atmosphere, friendly staff, decent prices and awesome food, what more could you want?...not sure..? I'll tell you. Any of their awesome burgers or sides, I tried the trufflenator and the ZEUS burgers as well as the million dollar bacon, deep fried pickles and cheesy garlic bread. My only problem is that my stomach wasn't big enough to finish everything. I will be returning!
Sydney pubs are all a bit fancy these days and the burgers at the Dee Why Hotel aren't your average pub grub, nor are they what you'd term a cheap feed with burger and fries costing upwards of $22. But they do cook up a mean burger. I had the Kim Jong bun December special; KFC (Kim Fried Chicken), Trump cheese, Kim (Jong) chi slaw, yellow pickled radish, ballistic missile mayo, green onion salad, sesame, Earth bun. Looked small but was more than satisfying with a bit of a chilli kick from the kimchi.
The Trufflenator on the regular menu is a big, bad burger with double wagyu beef pattie, truffle mayo, truffle butter, truffle infused Havarti cheese, truffle maple cheese, bacon, American cheddar, onion rings, and milk bun. Two thumbs up.
For a bit of nostalgia, check out the VIP lounge with signed tour posters from the likes of Midnight Oil, Deborah Harry and Ratcat.
Absolutely superb food. Cam here for the first time in about 15 years last week - delicious angus beef burger and chips (Friday special for $10). Just brought my wife and boy here - she had steak sandwich and he the ham pineapple kids pizza. Both we're far above what you'd expect from a run of the mill hotel like this. The refurbishment is nice too. Nice atmosphere. One of the best lemon lime and bitters I've ever had too. 10/10
Steaks have not been even close to medium. The service is appalling! Only good thing i have seen in there is the live performer every now and then. Practically the only reason this place exist is because of few locals who tend to spend their friday and saturday evenings in there. I can not suggest this place to anyone.
