Wirra Wirra Vineyards

Voted Australia's best Small Winery at the 16th annual Australian Liquor Industry Awards 2009

"Wirra Wirra" is an aboriginal name meaning "amongst the gum trees".
Wirra Wirra Vineyards was originally established in 1894 by known South Australian eccentric and cricketer Robert Strangways Wigley. Situated 3.7km from the township of McLaren Vale - highly reputed as a culinary mecca, home to some of Australia's finest food and wine producers - the Wirra Wirra cellar door is a warm and friendly place. Awful.... Apparently even if you book for a group to go to this cellar door they don't seem to care.... Staff were rude, not knowledgeable or forthcoming about the wines at the tasting, and continuously treating everyone in our group as if we were an inconvenience to them, as opposed to customers. All I would say is there were plenty of other wineries in Mclaren Vale that you could better spend your time.

One of my favourite wineries. The Church Block is a long time favourite. The cellar door is lovely as are the grounds. Sometimes you can play bocce on the lawns!! Great range of wines and friendly and knowledgeable staff.

If you havent visited Wirra Wirra for a wine tasting tour or just gone for a drive and dropped in here you are truly missing out. They have the best range of wines available with some fantastic reds to sample. Just make sure you are not the designated driver so you can taste test them all....!
