Barney
Unqualified and overpriced.
I was a regular customer however during my last visit, my hairdresser Millie, cut off half my fringe by accident and did a terrible job all around, nothing like my regular cut and not close to what I had asked for.
When I told the staff member that it was too short and was did not represent what I thought was a quality salon, or what I asked for, Millie disappeared and did not return. I contacted Barney directly and provided images. Barney is extremely rude and implied that I left the salon without paying, then asked me not to return to the salon.
To clarify, Andrew and Penny advised I didn’t have to pay, before I left the salon and I am still waiting for my hair to grow out so I can get it fixed, at a more professional hair salon.
I would recommend this salon if you would like to have your hair ruined, and then be a used by their staff afterwards.
After experiencing many disappointing hairdressers in and around Sydney (that left me with orange/yellow hair) I finally went to Barney Martin after a friends recommendation and Im so happy I went here! I has THE best experience with Claire she really listened to what I wanted and the result is SUPERB! Highly recommend this place great atmosphere and super talented staff!
I walk in and am immediately impressed. This salon looks the way a hair salon should look. Clean, crisp and creative. There are more staff that I had expected from the quaint shop front on Riley St, Surry Hills. The downstairs spans back with a separate section for washing hair and there is a spacious upstairs area for styling and cutting as well. It is modern, airy and fresh with an artistic feel. The back wall and ceiling is covered with Polaroid portrait shots of hundred of smiling, happy customers sporting their new dos. Barney himself is at the salon when I arrive and greets me. He offers me an Ipad to play with while I wait, suggesting I try this new addictive game hes into. I thank him, but decline his offer and instead read one of the many fashion magazines on display. I am soon taken to the basins where my hair is washed & I am given a relaxing head massage. The hair dresser colours my hair and gets me a glass of sav blanc to drink and some more magazines to ...read more
If you don't mind spending a bit of money on your hair and live around central Sydney I would recommend this salon. I have been going to Barney Martin's for around 3 years and have never left disappointed. I get my hair done by Katarina, a german girl, who is brilliant but be prepared to book her in advance and spend a bit extra as she is a sernior stylist. I always recognise the regulars when I come which is a good sign. Lots of my friends have been convereted. So,if you like a cosy funky atmosphere with cool friendly stuff minus the pretentiousness this is the place to come.
