Me and many friends have been going here for years. Food and service always at a high standard. Never had an average meal here either. I'm a rare steak man and the porterhouse is always done to perfection. A good sign of this pub is to look at the cars in the carpark early in the week and at lunchtimes daily...always pretty full if not chockers!
Manager Brian runs a good ship and has been there forever. Gaming staff very nice, smiley and helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Several of my mates from 30+ years ago who live 30 kms away still frequent the Baxter regularly and drive from Mt Martha and Crib Point for a family meal on special occasion. This is the best pub meal in Melbourne. Coming here for 12 years and NEVER had a poor quality meal. Huge menu, good specials, free soup and self serve rolls and butter. Lovely place. THEY DO NOT CALL NUMBERS THERE -AND NEVER HAVE. YOU'RE CONFUSING IT WITH ANOTHER PUB.
We had an absolutely woeful experience. I ordered a 500 gram rib eye steak, and my girlfriend ordered some pasta dish. As we waited and continually hearing number 99 being called out for 30 minutes we decided to ask what was going on with our meals. We were number 98 but our meals were being called out under 99. we spoke to the wait staff who went and got the management who apolisged for misunderstanding and said it was their fault. ...read more
I have been going to this hotel for over 25 years and not once have I ever heard a number system being used in the dining room ,however had you stated you were in the public bar it would make more sense, but the food is cheaper there so it would be hard to spend $60.00
Baxter Tavern is the favourite place for my partner and I to get a hearty weeknight meal these days. It's a real working-man's pub. We like to eat in the sports bar for the homey atmosphere and the delicious, good-value meals. We've never been disappointed. We love the roast vegies and the lamb shanks especially, are tender and tasty.
