I signed a lease with them for a rental property. They lodged my bond, banked my first month's rent cheque and told me to pick up the keys on my move-in date. When I turn up for the keys, they inform me that their agent had "accidentally" rented my apartment to someone else. How can a real estate agent lease a property to two different parties yet bank both their cheques? As I had already vacated my previous house and had a delivery truck waiting outside with my stuff, I was forced to accept their offer to find me a similar apartment in the same area. The unit I begrudgingly agreed to rent was a run-down hellhole. Bathroom covered in black mold, broken hot water system, kitchen sink had a tree branch through it and was rusted through (it completely fell apart when a plumber tapped it), leaky sewerage, open pipes, questionable wiring that caused fuses to regularly blow and the main circuit board to eventually burn out, almost causing a fire.
