If you’re looking for a relaxing chill-out space in the middle of the CBD, Birrarung Marr is your answer. The 8.3 hectare native garden along the Yarra River between Federation Square and the MCG was Melbourne’s newest major parkland for 100 years when it opened in 2002. Take a stroll down by the river by stepping down to Birrarung Marr which is located next to the iconic Federation Square. This place is known to host various food and cultural orientated festivals during the warmer months including the Noodle Festival, Spanish Festival and Thai festival. It has a great path for running and cycling which takes you up to South Bank or the Botanical Garden depending on which direction you take. The gardens are well maintained and frequented by corporates going for a stroll our enjoying the outdoors for fresh air.
One of the things I love about Melbourne is the amount of green space located right near bustling, busy city streets and attractions. This is a great spot to catch up with friends while wandering through the maze-like markets and street vendors. There is always something happening nearby and the food was amazing!
