This place was hyped up for many years. I had visited often through invites for special occasions and a romantic dinner of my own. They prided themselves with the 'fine dining' side of things. Portions were small. Flavours not exceptional. It is however, Mackay. perhaphs if we were in Melbourne they would have closed a long time ago.
The oysters were the only standout for us and even then on following visits it was hit and miss.
The service and atmosphere was always great and they had a great selection of wines which made it a good dining experience.
We'd heard rave reviews about Burp and were assured it was the best restaurant in Mackay.
We arrived for a 1pm booking and were a table of 5.
We decided to share 3 entrees and each have a main course.
1 entree arrived on its own - pork croquettes (we'd ordered lamb) before another waiter realised they hadn't all arrived and chased up the other 2 starters.
It was after 2.30 before our mains arrived and the trout was cold when it did turn up.
At no stage did staff check in, offer us some breads or a drink to tide us over or keep us informed.
Within 5 minutes tho our trout had been replaced with fish bits rather than a fillet as they'd run out.
Sadly disappointing experience but fabulous company.
