A South Melbourne dining institution now in a new location'Centro Ristorante Italiano' is practically an institution among South Melbourne locals, who make a weekly pilgrimage in droves to this Italian restaurant just to sample some of the delights coming out of the kitchen headed up by chef Luke Smith. Originally located in Clarendon Street it was run by Pietro and Ruth Clauzzi. Born in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, Pietro Caluzzi knew a thing or two about authentic north Italian cuisine. Unfortunately Pietro passed away last year but Ruth and the team continue his heritage serving a delicious range of dishes including Involtini di fesa (King Island rump rolled w/ roasted peppers and basil furttata baked in a marsala sauce), Bigoli ai frutti di mare (spaghetti al dente with fresh seafood) and mascarpone rice pudding (served w/ poached quinces and honeycomb ice cream) in generous portions will have you coming back time and time again for the same great experience.

Beautiful food. So hard to decide from what was on offer. One of my guests was raving so much about his calamari that I definitely have to go back and try it! Freshly baked bread to start with, then a huge offering of Italian inspired seafood dishes and pasta. Couldn't squeeze in dessert, but the souffles that went to the next table looked stunning. Full marks on all levels.
