Choosing glasses frames is not a process to be undertaken lightly. As glasses are worn during all occasions (from moccasin-shoed shuffles down to the fish & chip shop to sparkling centrestage stardom), and only jettisoned before the most delightfully indulgent of activities (sleep, snuggles and food-fights), you really want to score a top-notch frame. In my hunt for a less-studenty-looking glasses frame I chanced upon Che Eyewear in Fitzroy. The store itself seemed small yet classy; and I was greeted by a very genuine, cheerful lady who was happy to help locate frames to match my specifications, and let me browse free-range in the store. I never felt hurried, pressured or pesky, and the array of glasses available was very impressive. Che stocks both new and vintage glasses frames in a variety of styles and sizes, and if I recall correctly they range in price from around $100 to $400.
