Cherry Bar
Recognised as one of Melbourne's leading rock and roll bars, Cherry Bar pushes the sounds limits until the early hours of the morning. Tucked down a laneway, it attracts top local and international bands and a mixed clientele of die hard rockers and new comers wanting to let their hair down.
Melbourne’s first authentic rock’n’roll bar (see above for address), music lovers and musos themselves have long been sweet on Cherry: former Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher was so smitten he once tried to buy it. Depends on the music, depends on the crowd and depends on whether your company likes the same music as you. I've had mixed experiences here, mostly still attracts a uni student crowd of eclectics. Pretty good thursday nights, though I would rather find myself somewhere else on a friday or saturday night.
Tucked away in a little laneway is this well-known Melbourne watering hole. This is not a place for a quiet drink but to enjoy great music turned up loud. The music is everything here. It does get incredibly raucous at times but what would you expect from a place in AC/DC Lane?
I go to Cherry Bar on Thursday nights and never disappointed. Thursday nights are soul nights and are a lot of fun with a crowd that gets really into it. Starts with a live band, then followed up by a DJ who uses liberal amounts of classic soul moving to get even the coldest person to shake it on the d-floor.
Cherry used to be alright, but nowadays the service in that place is just awful, which has put me off the whole place.
I recently went there and the 'lady' charging the customers for entry was the rudest little girl I have ever encountered. I cannot understand why anyone would want to hire someone who is so hateful towards customers. I know that a rock bar has a certain reputation that they have to keep up, but having her as the first point of contact for the customers is not a good idea for any establishment.
