We visited their wine cellar today to sample and buy some local Christmas wines. I have never been made to feel less welcome. The person behind the counter had obviously classified us as minions who knew nothing about wine and after serving us two whites simply stopped guiding us through their range. I had to ask him to allow us to sample their port. We purchased two whites and a port and left shaking our heads and laughing about what on earth had just happened!! My tasting notes for Coolangatta read like.... An old vintage, in the bottle for too long and no longer feels the need to please. Slightly confusing after taste with lingering tones of complacency. We left and visited Two Figs just down the road and purchased 4 cases of Christmas wine there. Far more pleasurable experience.
Absolutely enjoyed my stay here. Beautiful scenic drive from Sydney..and when greeted was offered a free bottle of award winning wine worth $25...which was part of our package. We stayed in the horse stable which was so clean and comfy and had an amazing view of the golf course from our balcony.
Dinner at the restuarant was delicious!! My partner got fish and chips, which was hugeeee! The fish was fresh and the batter crunchy...I got the eye fillet and the goats cheese and pear and walnut salad...delightful! Best salad I've had yet!
Walking around the estate was awesome as they have little signs up about certain buildings and the history...
The buffet breakfast was also very good.. Had a lot of food, such as eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns, mushrooms. Grilled tomatoes, muesli, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, toast etc etc...I could go on!
Will definitely be back!
Have been to the restaurant and winery twice. The service is good, wines are average and the food is great but not mind-blowingly awesome. The lunch plate on a weekday is a steal at $25 with 4 tasting glasses of wine just enough for a boozy lunch without getting you blind drunk.
Other meals we had were the beef pie, which my brother highly rated, and a tuna steak which my dad seemed very satisfied with. They also do cute little flower pots of damper bread which are yummy but definitely a novelty.
Worth a visit if you were in the area.
