Customs House Waterfront Hotel
Customs House Hotel is small and intimate hotel in Hobart’s historic waterfront precinct. In 1846, Charles Gaylor was a smart publican: he chose the most prominent Hobart waterfront corner for his Georgian-style hotel – the corner of Murray and Morrison streets right across the road from Parliament House. Customs House Hotel has 23 ensuite rooms. From your bedroom window you may see members of Parliament hurrying into debates, people wandering in Parliament House gardens, the mellow sandstone Georgian buildings and shady Plane trees of Salamanca Place, ferries, yachts and ships arriving and leaving the Sullivans Cove docks. Take advantage of new bar/function area, Vue, opened in December 2008.As you explore the passages and rooms, decorated to reflect the hotel’s colonial heritage, you can imagine what the hotel must have been like during Mr Gaylor’s time. The Customs House is a great central location – an easy 10 minute walk into the central business district, a two-minute walk to the restaurants, shops and market stalls of Salamanca Place or Salamanca Square, and just across the road from the harbour, you can take a cruise to Peppermint Bay, Cadbury’s chocolate factory, Moorilla Estate or across the river to Bellerive village. Went to Custom House for breakfast, nice menu so we started we ordered coffees and breakfast, it took ages for the coffees to come out and when the coffees finally arrived the coffees were good. Breakfast took much longer to the point where we had to leave for our tour and never received our order. Must have been very short staffed on the day. Good location, great choice of seating options inside and out, but very slow and disappointing service
Great staff – very helpful. Rather than making me wait at the bar to get my drink, the staff member said that she would bring my drink out to me.
I had the seafood marinara – which was delicious!
It was a bit pricey, but the serving size was quite large. So well worth it.
The seafood seemed fresh – and there was a lot of seafood in the pasta. Every bite had a piece of seafood.
Nice location next to the water too.
I found Custum Hotel very very noisy. I went with a group of friends for a meal and we had huge trouble trying to understand each other.
The service seemed very slow. I just did not like it as much as i was hoping I would. It is not the best place I have been too and certainly not succesful when you want to chat and catch up with each other...! The only + I liked was that it was very close on the waterfront! The meals so by-the-way are rather expensive as well.
