Dexter Bar Cafe - The worst cafe experience ever.
I had a bad feeling from the start as staff struggled to say hello as we entered. It wasn't until I later read reviews that I realised this cafe considers themselves too cool and unfriendly to families. We have a four month old who did not make a peep the entire time we were there.
Staff were rude from the moment they placed water on the table.
Coffee was cold and bitter. Too cool to use a notepad and then mucked up the order. To fix the order seemed too much trouble. When it was time to pay we were asked 'wad ya have?', a little service wouldn't have gone a stray.
The place had an empty cold feeling and now I know why.
Dexter is one of the best places in town to hang out in. Great rockabilly, folk and local tunes always playing. Best coffee on queens parade. Food is cheap but definately not nasty, awesome vego options as well as some hearty feeds. The range of booze is awesome, local brewed stuff on tap such as the awesome pear cider and top shelf spirits you don't see around all that often. And I love the kid free factor, when i go out for my coffee I don't want screaming kids in the joint. The staff are all cool kids and Dexter is my favourite place to hang out in. BY FAR! And the guy behind the bar is not that bad either, if it wasn't for him dexter wouldn't have the attitude that makes it one of a kind! Heaven sent on Queens Parade I say!
I like this cafe like the coffee and the BLTs especially but I have had the worst cafe experience when I took my brother from out of town there and he asked for muesli with soy milk. It came with cows milk and when he complained (politely) the staff rudely took the food back and rinsed the cows milk off the muesli and served the same muesli with soy. They admitted to doing this because of cost reasons and they accused my brother of not ordering soy in the first place.
So sorry dexter I like your coffee and the vibe but the service for me has been pretty bad.
