Celebrated my brothers birthday here. Like the below review, I'm not big on korean BBQ but when you are with a bunch of friends or your family, makes it all fun and an enjoyable experience. I love the condiments like the kim chi and pickled cabbage and bean shoots. It goes really well with the variety of BBQ meat. The whole concept of cooking you own meat on a BBQ in front of you makes you feel more in control of how much you want to eat as well as how you want your meat to be cooked. The staff are friendly and are always prepared to bring out more condiments as its unlimited while you are dining. I have been to a few korean BBQ places and i would say Donwoori will make you walk away not worried and satisfied.
Along this busy strip on Victoria Street in West Melbourne there are quite a number of Korean Restaurants side by side, Ive eaten at most of them. This tiny little place has to be by far one of my favorite Korean BBQ places. Took my parents here some time ago as it was their first experience of Korean food and they were just so impressed with the food and the concept. On downfall was the smelly clothes they went home with The staff are so friendly and attentive, the food was just fantastic. Both the BBQ and the hot pot that was ordered. They are always quite generous when asking for more kim chi. Whats great about this concept is that its interactive, involves the contribution of everyone; either placing the meat on the pan, turning it, moving all the little kim chi plates around as most places youll find the table are filled with food and theres not much room to move afterwards.
I'm personally not a fan of KBBQ but I had a really enjoyable time here. Although a very small and cramp restaurant, it does however give it the Korean vibe. The service is very genuine and friendly although the language barrier may have you running into difficulties but I like it as it gives it a more authentic feel. If it's your first time at a KBBQ, I recommend you having the menu explained to you so you can maximise your experience by being able to try a wide range of meats. My favourite was the pork belly followed by the ribs. The kim chi is unlimited, and I suggest having a beer with your food as it goes down really well with KBBQ.
