Downstairs Bistro & Lounge
This is the second time I've come here, which suggests that maybe my bookclub actually quite likes this place (though I do hope they keep on checking out other places in and around Melbourne). Anyway this is a nice little cafe in a quiet part of Melbourne's Southbank (and yes, there is actually a quiet part) that opens early, and closes quite late. While they say they have an all day breakfast, it does finish at around 3:00 pm. I ended up having the eggs benedict, which was quite nice, and I really did like the hash brown. The great thing about this place was that it wasn't all that crowded being a little out of the way does help with this though. Also it was fairly spacious, with a couple of outdoor areas, a lounge around in the front part, and tables out the back. It's not a bad place and would come here again, even if for the eggs benedict.
Great local spot for drinks, dinner, and pre-theatre dining. Friendly staff, excellent service, and delicious food. The wine list was good and the menu offers a nice selection of tapas, pasta, mains and pizzas.
We opted for prawn and asparagus risotto and prawn with chorizo as entrees - both delicious. The lamb and rib eye mains were just as good.
Casual & comfy, a great place to meet friends.
