I had a motorcycle accident in 2005 and badly smashed my right ankle. Dr Petchell did a reconstruction of my ankle using the fragments of bone that were left and some bone harvested from my hip. It took 5 operations and almost a year and a half before the bone rejoined enough for me to even bear weight. There were many times I considered amputation just so I could see some way of walking again but Dr Petchell encouraged me to heal the ankle. Now seven years later I am working full time as a commercial photographer and have just walked the Milford Track in NZ. I have some sporadic pain and occasional aches but for the most part my ankle is as good as ever and I am eternally grateful for the amazing work of Dr Jeff Petchell. DC
