This is a middle of the road pub option for Balmain. Whilst food is OK, I find the decor of the pub a little uninviting and a lack of regulars often makes the bar feel empty and cold. Anzac Day is one exception, but even then I feel The Exchange gets an overflow of people that leave Dicks from across the road. Not a bad option, but not a standout pub for me either.
Had some lunch here on Sunday. It was pretty earlier at about 12.30 so it was quiet. The main part of the bar is your typical old looking aussie bar nothing special. When you go out to the courtyard it is really lovely lots of wooden furniture and places to sit. There is a big Dome over a part of it to keep out the sun and rain. Food was yummy had the pulled pork burger and chips. Had a Virgin Mary ( I was driving ) and it was delish. Bloody Mary was a little expensive at $16 with not celery or cucumber.
Looking forward to going back here on a Friday or Saturday evening!
