Another pub that hasn't changed in the years that I have visited it for a beer or three with friends. Okay, it is no longer the smoke filled bohemian hang out that it used to be because, well, all of the smoke has gone, but the bohemians are still there doing what all good bohemians do. This pub certainly brings back lots of memories, both good and bad, and it still gets incredibly crowded on a Friday and Saturday night. Many was a night when I would be waiting ages to try and squeeze into the narrow bar without actually realising that all I needed to do was walk around into the other room. There is also an enclosed beer garden, but as I have suggested, getting a seat can be very difficult at times.
A typical uni student hangout, the Exeter is a nice and relaxed place to go for a good drink and good company. I have made plenty of good friends at the Exeter! The food is very quick, but quite nice for a pub meal. Not a place for the overdressed clubber, but more for the indie crowd and those who are happy to enjoy some good rock music and company. Nice place.
Within the heart of Adelaide city in the east end the Exeter is a welcoming and cosy pub always alive with live music in good company, although it seems to only cater for the younger generations with its electric atmosphere at night, by day it is an exeptional eatery serving up some of the finest pub meals in adelaide for the whole family, and even better, its now smoke and pokie free, just another fine reason to head to the exeter with some good mates for some great times.
The food here is outstanding. It always represents value for money and the menu is continually changing. The food here sets the standard for pub meals in Adelaide. Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Exeter are curry nights. Traditionally the curries may be inspired from anywhere in South-East Asia and will offer the diner a choice ranging through vegetarian, beef, chicken, lamb and seafood. The kitchen is open for lunch on weekdays (12-2:30pm) and for dinner on weekdays (6:30-9pm), excepting Tuesday. A menu staple is the Coopers Ale, beer-battered fish and chips – always hard to go past.
