We have had 2 major celebrations this year at The Grove a 90th birthday and a 70th wedding anniversary. Lunchtime was perfect for both events. The hotel staff were very friendly patient and helpful and because it was lunchtime on a weekday not crowded or too noisy. Highly recommend lunchtime events. The food and menu choices were more than adequate and no no one had a "bad meal" on either occasion. Reasonably priced meals and wines. Support your local and enjoy.
I've been here several times and have to addmit it's never really grabbed me. There are good things like their seating area which is bright and large, and staff are friendly on the whole. But if I go to a pub it's for a good feed and reasonably priced drinks - and this doesn't really have either. Regulars seem to love the place, they hang around laughing and joking with the staff but if you're not regular then you could always go to the dingy pokies I guess. Or go somewhere else like me.
Stopped in for lunch with my mate. Have eaten here plenty of times as it's one of my favorites.
Atmosphere is modern and comfortable. Food quality and presentation is good.
Today when our meals were brought out.. The waitress didn't seem to notice that we had no cutlery. Hopefully this is only a once off.
I had this desire once, when I was living in Paradise, to jump on a bus and go up to this pub to see if it was a good pub to sit down in and read a book. It turned out that it wasn't. The first thing that struck me was that the beers were expensive, and the second thing that struck me was that this was a middle class suburban pub. It was very glitzy with no real bar, and though there was a decent beer garden, the hike up here on a bus was simply not worth it. I also noticed in my wandering around here is that while there is a sports bar, there is no direct access to it (you have to walk outside and walk around the back to get to it). If you live in the area then maybe it is an okay place to have a beer and a meal, but for me, no thanks.
Used to like this place, even used it for a staff Xmas show in 2009, but recently been twice and had bad experiences both times, menu limited, trying to be too posh I think, first visit salt and pepper squid was sooo oily, then most recent visit, I got my meal after the whole table (of 15) had been eating for about 10 minutes. Can't even remember what I ordered now. The one thing I do like though is the "lychee love" cocktail, but pretty pricey. Outdoor alfresco perfect for a casual Sunday arvo party, beautiful.
Thankyou for your feedback Dunn. We apologize for your previously bad experience and we hope you will return and give us another go. We have recently changed our dinner menu, it has a much larger variety and the quality is excellent. We hope to have you in again and provide you with an excellent excellent experience.
