Gourmet Deli House
Definitely the right spot to have a deli in Highpoint Shopping Centre. And as the only deli in a shopping centre the prices are a bit more higher than a deli in a local plaza. However in saying that the variety and range of deli meat, cheese, bread and other food is great. Some stuff you would not be able to get in a supermarket. Like Jamon, spanish ham and this is the first deli i have seen sell it. Very expensive but very nice and delicate and the history and work behind a piece of Jamon is hard work. Looking at like over $40-$50 a kilo. Sounds ridiculous right but thats how much they sell it for. Its like prosciutto but better i say. I ate heaps of Jamon in Spain as it was cheap there and its rare here in Australia as its just too expensive to import. Anyhow, the owners were nice to explain the history and why it costs so much and even try a very small piece even though we weren't buying. I was here over the weekend at the Gourmet Deli House, and can say that I was impressed with the large variety of dips, various produce, ham, prosciutto etc that they had! I was told that the dips are homemade, same as the pestos, antipasto. Its great to know this as I have found most homemade food that are sold are recipes that has been passed down family generation. My partner is extremely picky with his selection of cheese and where they come from, and he was quite impressed with the variety that they stocked. Its great that they have a large number of cheese from different parts of the world. Some other cooked food that they offered was pasta, chicken, pork hocks one of my recent favourite from them, as I use to buy it in another area that I thought had the best pork hock until only recently just trying these guys out. The staff was friendly, little busy over the weekend but thats expected to wait a little to be served.
