Grossi Florentino
Melbourne's iconic Italian institution offers something for everyone in exquisite, opulent surrounds. Upstairs is the restaurant, all classic style and Italian panache served in one of Melbourne's most special rooms. Chef and owner Guy Grossi stirs up a storm in the kitchen with the finest cuisine prepared with care and flair. Downstairs it's a more relaxed, affordable affair, the cellar bar and grill offering staple spaghetti bolognaise and lasagne as good as anything nonna could make.
Renaissance style and opulence greet you at the top of the sweeping staircase and Italian hospitality embraces you as you are shown to your table. Grossi now has three dining sections - Grill, Upstairs and Bar. We dined in the Grill. Superb service. the menu was moreish - we had a hard time choosing. Our entrees were great. Being Grossi I couldn't go past the wild boar pasta which was amazing. My friend had a steak and couldn't stop eating it.
This place is small enough to be considered boutique. It is not suited for large families but rather for couples and small groups as it can be a little squashy at times. I ordered the mushroom pasta and it was exceptionally tasty! Their staff and nice and friendly and prices are reasonable.
Love this place. It's a trusty hearty Italian icon in Melbourne. Grossi's Cellar Bar is situated right next to Grossi Florentino's and has a cozy indoor setting and also outdoor seats which are perfect for lunches or coffees in the warmer weather. Very traditional Italian restaurant, we were served delicious bread and olive oil with our spaghetti vongoli and pumpkin sage tortellini (both were to die for). Note this place doesn't take bookings so come early on Thursdays and Friday nights.
Service could have been better as we had to ask twice for our Bellinis and when we politely enquired about the size of the the cheesecake we were served as it was smaller than usual the waiter was quite rude and somewhat aggressive.
There are so many options here. I've had both lunch and business coffee here. The service is attentive, personable and quick. The whole atmosphere is no-nonsense quality and the food is lovely. Good coffee (of course) too. It's a good place to choose for business coffee.
