Ha Long Bay Restaurant
It may look like a fish and chip shop from the outside, but inside this thoughtfully decorated intimate restaurant is authentic Vietnamese cuisine, with some Chinese thrown in for good measure. Order a la carte, or choose between three banquets. Enjoy meals like Vietnamese sour soup with Murray perch or prawns in XO sauce.

After wandering up and down Victoria Street a number of times and seeing the multitude of Vietnamese Restaurants I decided that I should start stepping into one and have a meal. The problem was working out which one so I jumped onto the internet and discovered that that was no help because they were all rated pretty highly. So I did what I always do and picked one at random. To sum this place up briefly I would have to say it wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't the best. Okay, they had Vietnamese beer, which was a plus, and the food was okay (ignoring the peas I really don't like peas), but that was about it. Okay, it isn't really a gripe, but the waiter was a little too eager. Before I had even managed to check into the place (after accidentally checking in to Vietnam) on my phone, he was standing before me ready to take my order, and I had only got as far as the beer. Still, it was okay, but that's about it.
Very nice Vietnamese food. I was very impress with the food here and will most definitely be coming back. I started with the spring rolls which was very crunchy and extremely fresh. I was originally going to order a bowl of spicy beef noodle soup but the pho smelt delicious here and it seemed like everyone was ordering the pho. So I just had to order it and I can see why everyone was ordering it, it was not only cheap, but a very generous serving and tasted amazing. Recommended!
This is a good no-fuss Vietnamese eatery. The menu selection is long, but not varied - it's just the same basic dishes with different options. Having said that though, once you make your choice, your food will be well cooked and nice, with very good flavours. The place is just as you find it - unadorned, unassuming, just as you see it. I had dinner here. My companion had the Chicken Satay Skewer and I had the Crab & Asparagus Soup. The satay was heavy (tear-inducing) on the chili, or some other spice and the soup was good, if just a little bland. For mains, we shared a Vietnamese Chicken Coleslaw and some Chinese Brocolli with Garlic Sauce. Both very good. The service is fine, but don't expect a nicely timed, well spaced meal - all your food will come when it's cooked - whether you're ready for it or not. Our entrees arrived separately, then our mains arrived half way through our entrees. If you can live with that, then this place will be a good haunt for you. Just good tucker - ...read more
Im ashamed to admit, this is a very belated review but better late than never. This is a pleasant restaurant. I have dined here on several occasions, always for lunch. The last time was a Christmas work function of 20 odd people. The service was great, the food was fantastic and very fresh (which so often seems to be the case with Vietnamese food). The menu is vast and extremely well priced. I believe its well worth a visit.
