I've probably been to this pub a grand total of two times, once with some friends, and the second time on my recent trip to Adelaide when I wanted to check it out. It was one of those pubs that I would travel past on the bus every morning (and evening) when going to work, but the bus stops nowhere near it. Both times I've been here I've had a beef schnitzel, which wasn't all that bad. It's basically a suburban pub – nothing fancy – though they do have live bands. There is a fancy restaurant up the back (though we only ever eat in the bar). The staff were nice, and our meals came out pretty quickly, however there isn't really all that much about this place that I would consider all that fantastic. I'll probably give it a miss next time I'm in Adelaide.
I've come here before for work functions in one of the rooms upstairs but was the first time coming here last week for dinner in the restaurant section. The servings sizes were pretty big, which is good for the price you pay and the flavors of the dishes were nice but there were some elements from the two meat dishes that we ordered that didn't seem to go that well with each other. The beef and mushroom ragout was really yummy though! ALl in all it was a good night. I would come back again sometime. Service was good also.
I don't mind the Hackney Hotel for a quiet drink, or a few on a Saturday night during football season and I've never really had any bad experiences that have been worth sharing, until Christmas this year.
This was the second time our family chose to spend our Christmas lunch at the Hackney Hotel, mostly as our grandparents are getting old and the traditional, cooking at home was getting squashy and a bit much for them. ...read more
