Happy's Chinese Restaurant

The food is acceptable, though not a standout. We had no problems with the service or the attentiveness of staff. What lets the restaurant down a little is the ambience. The restaurant is downstairs and has almost a dungeon vibe. The decor could do with some freshening up. Mr Happy's is a Canberra icon, however, and everyone must go there at least once.

This is the BEST Chinese restaurant in Canberra, and you knows it's true because I'm Chinese! The price is very reasonable for Canberra, and portion size generous. The location is so central, and because you have to walk downstairs to reach it, it really is a "hidden" gem. Not to be missed!

Worst customer service ever. We were seated at a table right under a cold airconditioning vent when we asked to move to a vacant table we were grunted and snarled at saying we should sit where we were put! We responsed by walking out and will never return. We had eaten there previously and the food is average. Dont waste time or money with this restaurant

This is the kind of Chinese restaurant you will find in China. It's tucked away downstairs in Garema Place. It's packed every lunchtime and most evenings so you will need to book ahead. The plates of food are huge and you could easily share one meal between two. I highly recommend the san choy bow for an entree and the shandong chicken for a main - easily the best you'll find in Canberra.

Speaking of my personal opinion, I think they have the worst customer service in whole Canberra!

Food is nice, but I think it's fairly overpriced.
Stuffy environment with poor service from the waiter and especially the owner.

Wouldn't recommend this restaurant for dinner/ takeaway (as it takes too long and they prioritize dine in customers in order to serve more customers waiting outside the restaurant & charging overpriced food.)
