Welcome to Janine Claxton PsychologyJanine Claxton gained her BA Honours Degree majoring in Psychology at the University of Melbourne. She then obtained her Diploma of Education and in 1991 was awarded a post-graduate scholarship to undertake her Master of Clinical Psychology at The Flinders University of South Australia.
After then teaching for two years, Janine pursued further work in psychology in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Austin Hospital, Victoria and also privately tutored students who were experiencing academic difficulties.
As part of her Masters Degree, Janine worked with both adults and children in a variety of clinical settings in Adelaide, including the Anxiety disorders Clinic at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woodcroft Community Health Centre, and the Adolescent Day Service, and also undertook research into peri-natal sleep disruption and its emotional impact.
Janine worked at The Flinders University of South Australia as a careers/student counsellor. She then worked full-time for three years in clinical private practice focusing on child and adolescent issues, adult anxiety and depression, cognitive, academic and vocational assessments as well as victims of crime assessments, followed by four years at Novita with families of young people with a physical disability.
In 2006, Janine was the first psychologist to be employed as a member of the paediatric diabetes team and the young adult diabetes team at Frankston Hospital. The multi-disciplinary team provides assistance and support to young people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and their families, who face the daily demands of managing this chronic illness. In 2010, Janine commenced private practice in a part-time capacity and is located in rooms at 15 Hastings Road, Frankston, while continuing at Frankston Hospital.
