I was drawn into the Kallangur Tavern by the advertised $10 lunch deal. I was disappointed to find the food not much better than fast food. I ordered the Barramundi and chips and sadly, it was tough and overcooked. The mayonnaise they used tasted very bland and made the salad almost inedible. We were eating fish but were supplied large steak knives to carve up our meal.....perhaps they know how tough the fish is when it is finally taken from it's hotbox! I was also disappointed when my partner and I purchased two meals but only received 1 signature on the supposed "Frequent Diner" loyalty card. It clearly says 1 card per person per meal, however the cashier would not let my partner and I start two cards at once, regardless of the fact there was no name on the cards. I suggested we could just buy our meal separately and begin two cards but this seemed to overwhelm the staff member and just firmly said "no". All in all, a lousy experience.
I live local and have frequented this place many times using all facilities. While i don't hit the nightclub these days (too old) the public bar and restaurant are quite good. Public bar is a mad punters bar with raffles on regularly. Food is well priced ($10 lunches) and always good quality. Not quite as good as it was 2 yrs ago but still a very popular place to eat. It's my back up venue where I go when i don't feel like trying somewhere new. Always know I will get a good meal here. Staff are friendly and efficient too.
