The bearded bakers were all full of energy. Dancing n singing, you won't get bored while waiting for your kanafeh to be ready (and it doesn't take that long either). Fun atmosphere, and good kanafeh. The middle eastern pastry wasn't too sweet, it was gooey and served hot.
Famous for the atmosphere as much as what you're eating, Knafeh is an example of sharing culture through cuisine. Their soft and gooey sweet cheese pies are tasty, and so are the men delivering them to you from a reconfigured shipping container, as they rock out and generally have a lot of fun. I tried mine at an Arabic event in Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour, but you can find them all over Sydney.
At Paramasala I found it funny that there music was competing with music on the main stage yet the music didn't disturb each other's section,well placed!
If you have no patience then don't come here. Always a line,always a wait. But they do entertain with dancing and music and interesting art.
I like the texture and the slightly crusted top,it just melts in your mouth and I didn't find it too sweet! It really is a taste sensation you wondered why you haven't tried earlier. These travelling bearded bakers are taking Sydney by storm.
From what I've read (and been told) Knafeh is a sweet cheese Arabic dessert which is topped with a sweet syrup. Yes I will go on.
The story behind these guys are they have taken on their mother's Knafeh recipe, grew some intense beards, created a travelling shipping container, move it around each week or so around Sydney and open each Tuesday to Sunday in their new location.
