Kobe Wagyu BBQ Restaurant
With a clientele base that often pours out the doors, there's no denying how popular Sydney city based 'Fujiya Japanese Restaurant' is amongst locals.
Serving up an authentic range of fresh Japanese cuisine, 'Fujiya' attracts just as many Japanese Australians as it does Caucasian Australians (a pretty good sign in my book). Get some sushi to compliment a hot tempura dish or udon. With so many choices the menu never gets boring.
The restaurant is located midway between Town Hall and World Square, the heart of the ...read more

Kobe Wagyu is in the heart of the Sydney CBD, and can be found upstairs, entering from Goulburn street. It is a large space, where you sit in booths, complete with your grill to cook your food.
Our first visit was not particularly good and we were invited back by the new management team to have a second experience. The new management was extremely evident. Staff were much more attentive and the restaurant was absolutely packed. The second visit was outstanding.
The restaurant may be considered to be relatively expensive for Japanese, however not for a Japanese BBQ. It uses top grade quality wagyu beef, fresh seafood and ...read more
The waitress was so lovely and quick to take our orders (you can also ring a little signal button). I love it because it's not overcrowded and the food their is so fresh and well presented, especially all the fresh sushi! Besides the teriyaki salmon rice bowl, the sushi is my favorite to order here! I would without a doubt recommend the "Caterpillar roll" with tempura roll. It takes a while to come out as they make it fresh (still slightly warm) but it is so pretty to look at and tastes even better. They take so much care in the presentation, especially in the thinly sliced avocado on top. I almost ordered the California roll instead but I'm so glad I changed my mind last minute! It's not often you order something that you did not regret at all and would definitely come back for again. This is definitely a local favorite now.
The staff were friendly, however the food took an extremely long time to come out considering there was only another couple in the restaurant. When my fried pork came out, it was raw inside and had to be brought back which again too a while to come out. An even more annoying thing was the timing each item of food came out. We ordered entrees which came out a long time after the mains were served. The quality of the food wasn't great either, it tasted like shelf product japanese food, and not at all authentic.
The only good thing to come out of this place is the location and the decor.
Walking in you'll be presented with a floor to ceiling cabinet of Saka and Champagne the length of the restaurant.
The food is relatively small portions so order up big, the Sirloin Steak, Wagu was a favorite while the tempura pieces were a nice little starter.
The staff were attentive and friendly, the only down fall is, its a hidden gem, so not many people know about it and therefore its pretty quiet, while across the path Din Tai Fung has a 20 mtr line up.
From the moment you start climbing the stairs into the Fujiya restaurant, you can tell that you're in for an enjoyable evening. Fujiya combines elements of Japanese culture, cuisine and service.
The menu is made up of an assortment of both traditional and modern chicken, seafood and beef dishes. Although the meal proportions are a little on the small-side the prices compensate accordingly. It's advised that when dining with a larger group that you allow between 2 - 4 dishes per person to ensure that everyone receives a satisfactory sized meal.
As for drinks, there is a large selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages on offer. As a personal recommendation, the Long Island Iced Tea goes rather well with a serving of the Chicken Karaage.
In terms of atmosphere, I have rarely been to Fujiya and not found it packed with a vibrant crowd. All in all, the restaurant has never disappointed and I would happily recommend it to everyone.
