Muddling in this Manhattan- style space is what’s done best here. Famous for its stick drink which is fruit pounded by a wooden stick shaken with vodka and ice, settle into the cool bar at Longrain and forget about a quiet chat – it’s Friday night and the discs are spinning. Instead order some betel leaves or the heavenly sticky pork to keep you ...read more
Normally I would avoid asian fusion because I am quite picky/snobby when it comes to asian food, but I was really pleasantly surprised with Longrain. Although the portion size for me is quite small (I know it is a 'share' plate but I was still feeling peckish) I really enjoyed their okra stir fry tofu. The flavour was close to being authentic - a nice explosion in your mouth. It was great for my friend who is a vegetarian, a lot of vego options on the menu, I love the table setting being a communal feel. Definitely would go back again
The food we had was mostly excellent, but i thought the service could be improved upon. Taking away plates when you haven't finished (and not politely asking) is awful. No finger bowl, poor form and no rubbish bowl also, no excuse as they knew we had the sambal prawns and duck( so where does one put the duck bones and prawn heads?). I felt mean only giving a small tip, but seriously, a restaurant of this calibre, no excuse, given that the prices aren't cheap. I also needs my phone torch light to read the jolly menu, the globe was dead in the group of lamps near my table, and possibly if it was working i may still have needed a light as it was dark. I won't be hurrying back, which is a shame as the food is very special.
I can't fault this place, and the queues we had to deal with here twelve years ago are no longer there as you can now book! The food is stunningly executed and the building and bar is just beautiful, it is special occasion dining in a nice part of town. I love that they also have Asian themed desserts, using ingredients such as coconut and serving unusual sorbets. It's always superb.
