Madras Banyan Tree is the first of its kind in Melbourne featuring authentic recipes from the four states of Southern India namely Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Each state has a treasure trove of distinctive flavours to offer. The extensive menu offers vegetarian, poultry, meat and seafood delicacies such as Madurai Mamisa Kola -deep-fried minced lamb dumplings, Pepper Chicken Chettinadu - chicken pieces tossed with black pepper and other Chettinadu spices and many dosai varieties - a traditional savoury pancake made out of rice and lentil dough. Comes plain or with different fillings and served with different dips (chutney and sambar). The dessert menu features several kulfi flavours along with my personal favourite Blow Hot Blow Cold - hot gulab jamoon (milk dumplings) with ice cream.
