Mamas Buoi
Mama’s Bu?i is a modern Vietnamese restaurant on Devonshire Street, about a five minute walk from Central Station. A homage to the owner’s mother, the welcoming, home-style interior design provides a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
For lunch, I ordered the Pho Chay, the vegetarian version of the iconic pho beef noodle soup. Vietnam actually has a large vegetarian and vegan food culture, being home to a large Buddhist population and bountiful fresh produce.
Showing photos of my lunch to my girlfriend made her very jealous and I’m still looking for an excuse to go back. If you’re looking for a chill place to go for Vietnamese food near Central Station, give Mama’s Bu?i a try.
A lovely casual Vietnamese restaurant located in Surry Hills near Central Station.
The atmosphere has a good vibe to it. There is bench seating, communal seating as well as some booths. It is quite cosy but has a lovely feel to it. Service was swift and attentive.
The special piggy menu looked tempting but stuck to my guns and had the To Bun (Vermicelli Noodle Salad Bowl) With Lemongrass Pork With Pork Spring Rolls was tasty and full of flavour. Good ratio of noodles to salad to meat. The dressing was zingy enough for me and added a great flavour to the salad. Iced coffee was nice too.
Was recommended by a friend here but it was a huge disappointment. Serious overpriced pho and other 'Vietnamese cuisine', got a takeaway and when i got home i realised they forgot to put my partner's order in. I rang them up and the guy who took my order was super unapologetic, repeating "oh I don't know what happened"...yeah buddy neither do i. The only thing they could do was to make us go back to get the food, which was super annoying as they were closing in 15 minutes so had to rush there. Even face to face, the guy still did not apologise for the inconvenience, but instead told us he put in 2 rice paper rolls in there. Mate, i don't need more terrible food in my bag, just say sorry.
