Maroubra Music School

Maroubra Music School came about through years of development of music education systems that we have used to teach over 2000 music students in over 50 schools in Sydney. Now based in Maroubra, students have the opportunity to take part in the many incredible activities we offer to inspire and teach jazz, classical & rock music.

All modern instruments are available as we believe musicians should to some degree be multi instrumental. We eventually settle on one or two main instruments, but how would you know what instrument suited you unless you had played them all ? Fact: 90% of students who have come to us wanting to play a particular instrument have settled on a different one later. This tells us kids really need the flexibility to explore, so we have piano/keyboards, electric drums, electric and acoustic guitars, microphones for singers, flutes, clarinets, saxophones etc.

No matter what instrument we play we focus on the central perception skills of pitching, rhythm and technique, and age appropriate theory, but the delivery is modern and fun. Students have free access to our custom online music education system, a beautiful and engaging animated audio / visual curriculum. Parents with kids using our system report they love doing their home music study. We used this system to coach a group of beginner musicians from 5 to 12 years old and within one year they were a superband that performed live on the Channel 9 Kerri-Anne Kennerley show.

For recall in learning music and for interested students we draw on technology to help us create music assignments that embrace digital multi media. An interesting and comprehensive way of learning a song could be for example to learn an Adele, Katy Perry or Ed Sheeran song on piano, voice and drums, then record all that and made a CD, then create an animation or video film clip to go with their recording and made a DVD. We find kids become very self motivated to learn their parts when they are inspired by a project.
