Marquis of Lorne
Marquis of Lorne in Fitzroy looks like a cross between an Australian and old English pub from the exterior. Once you step inside, you will see that downstairs features a quaint bar area and plenty of retro lounges and rugs that will make you feel like you have stepped back into yesteryear. Just around from the bar you can walk upstairs to the restaurant area, serving traditional pub fare, you can be assured that the kitchen cooks hearty meals to satisfy your hunger pains. Live bands and DJs also keep patrons entertained.

I am not a great fan of roof top bars. They can be very windy and cold. And they can feel very unsafe with their average height walls/ barricades... NOT this gem, with its closed in window walls. There is but a gentle breeze and a feeling that you have no worries other than who will shout the next round of drinks. A pleasure to be here
I took my friends here for a birthday celebration and absolutely loved it. The tiny, packed rooftop felt like a little hideaway and excellent way to enjoy a Melbourne afternoon.
After about four hours we were getting hungry and moved downstairs to the restaurant - couldn't speak more highly of the staff who were so accommodating to our large group, putting us in the private dining room and constantly monitoring us for food and drink needs.
Upmarket pub food and a great selection of wines and cocktails meant there was something to keep everyone satiated. Will be back!
Over the time that I have been in Melbourne this place has gone from being mostly empty to actually quite full. Maybe it was something to do with the time that I came here previously but to first time I called by it was closed, and the second time it was pretty quiet. However I decided to call back again recently (since it was nearby), and it was a pretty lively establishment. This is another one of those cool backstreet pubs that I quite like, though it seems that these places have appeared on the radar a lot more these days. There are three levels, with a fairly small rooftop deck (which can become fairly crowded with the smokers as well), and a small bar next to it. The second level is the restaurant and the front bar is on the ground floor. However I don't mind this place, though there are better pubs around the place.
