I am well aware of mandatory reporting, I know it inside and out as I am a counsellor.
But this was not a case that even remotely required such action - it was wholely to do with personal reasons.
Since when is it the 'schools responsibility' to contact THE DHS FIRST in regards to a child's absence?? It's not. This only occured mere days following the initial call to DHS (and tbh it was solely in regards to one of my daughter's angry run ins with her dad about scratching the new car with her school bag and her being upset about it at school) it was 100% calculated on the principal's behalf.

We need to let parents of primary school aged children who are considering this primary school know of our experience.

For a start, there is poor communication between the principle and parents.

Infact, we were not called at all. And must stress 'at all'. Whether you are a current parent or potential parents considering this school please re consider. We do not want more families being subjected to what we have been put ...read more

I understand your feelings but teacher's are bound by "mandatory reporting" by which it is in the interest of the child and their own safety to NOT contact the parents. For those children in the community that are being neglected and/or abused at home it is important that those processes are in place.
