So we rock up to this place yeah, walked through the front door and the first thing that i recognized that there was nothing about this place that told me i was even in a Chinese restaurant. No soft glowing red lights. No calming authentic music, no smells. Rather the radio was up to loud. The atmosphere was more appropriate for a school canteen, to put it. I find atmosphere is key to a good Chinese restaurant. Anyhow, we seat ourselves and the waitresses bring out a plate of prawn crackers and the menus. The prawn crackers weren't fresh, they weren't warm and lacking flavor. At this time i was seriously considering leaving to find a finer place to appease my Asian pallet. Stomachs were hungry though so we stuck to our guns and ordered our mains; chili garlic beef, satay beef and a side of fried rice. I sighed as the fried rice came out 30 seconds later. It was too quick. It was dry and the flavors were bland at best. 5 minutes later and our mains are out. A glimpse of hope ...read more
Seriously RohanMac - you need to get real !! I know people who travel from Geraldton to get food from this place! Yes, the place may seem a little crowded but, it does get pretty busy in there. I have never bought anything from there that has not been bland or dis-tasteful and that is evident by the repeat customers they get. Their fried rice is full of flavour and packed full of ingredients - not just fried peas and corn like most other chinese places. As far as traditional uniforms?? what the?? This place doesn't need gimmicks of having pretty red lanterns or pretty uniforms - the food speaks for itself. Personally, I don't care what the place looks like(as long as it's clean) or what the staff wear(as long as they are covered)! The important thing is that the food is good quality and floavoursome. They have this in a nutshell - so I totally recommend this restaurant to everyone - you will not be disappointed - unless of course you are more interested in authentic asian attire!
The food is the most important thing, agreed fully. The fried rice also made me raise an eye brow, slightly. I could not possibly rate it more than 2 stars, not even for the area! Even if the atmosphere was realistic, it would not make the food taste any better but maybe it would make me want to sit down, relax and enjoy a glass of wine or two. a good restaurant is about going all out and bringing food to the finest quality possible at all costs. Its about willing to loose everything without reheating food and using the freshest ingredients, being a master of spices will only take you so far. If you dont make it admit it was not your destiny. Move on and rebuild. Its what passion is made of.
