Linked up with Northcote Social club and its sister venues in Melbourne, the Newtown Social draws an impressive lineup of local and international gigs. There's some really decent music going on here every month, if you like your tunes you need to check this out. Lineups on the website. Downstairs is a bit huge/empty/dodgy a lot of the time - nothing intrinsically wrong with it but each time I've been around it just seems like all the action is in the bandroom upstairs. Sounds like they're working on fixing that though with some new menus and music happening in the downstairs bar too. Upside: loads of space down there if you have a big group.

Love this place! Been to a few really good gigs here, really intimate, they also do really good food downstairs.

Newtown Social Club has a groovy atmosphere and is a welcome return to having a live music venue on south King Street.
The venue has a downstairs with a main bar area, a back section for dining and medium sized comfortable beer garden for your die hard smoker friends. The band room is upstairs and if you enjoy live music you won't be disappointed by this intimate space that lets you get up close to the band you are seeing.

Went here for a quick drink on Sunday before we went next door for dinner. There was an overwhelming spell of bleach when we walked in. I could understand if it was early in the day and they had been cleaning up from Saturday night but it was nearly 6pm.They have a nice wall garden towards the back and an outdoor area. I didnt go upstairs but there is a room where they have live music most Saturdays. not really a place for daytime drinks.
