Oxley Hotel

Average pub, but the staff are friendly, could do with a upgrade.

Went for a Sunday lunch... Was told it was a pleasant hotel / pub. We arrived not via the main entrance but via the bar entrance. There was no one to greet us or ask us whether we would like to be seated. So I assumed that we were to be seated by our own choice and discretion. I choose a 4 seated table in the middle of the room about 3 tables away from the main entrance. Very pleasant clean looking place with greet looking specials on the adjacent walls. After taking a seat we waited for 5min for someone to assist us or tell us how to order etc. Getting slightly impatient I collected the menu myself. Assuming it was a "pay at the bar" kind of place we placed a order at the kitchen-bar for a burger and chips , and some prawns . We saw three wait staffs helping other people. All seemed very busy and none seemed to enjoy what they were doing. No smiles, no true customer engagement only a superficial 'here is your food' and now I'm finish with you expression. ...read more

Don't risk their oysters. Worst thing was the kitchen staff not willing to accept that the oysters were days old despite the evidence. They thought it was about trying to get a refund. Never again.

Nice pub, great for a Friday dinner! Staff are great

The Ox is pretty pricey - obviously aiming at the higher end of the 'pub' experience. But they also have pub meals for those just wanting a snack / burger which is reasonably priced.



They have karaoke on saturdays which is highly entertaining but ends wuite early.
