Papa Gedes
Papa Gede's bar is infused with the spirit of witch-doctor apothecary, home-made herbal elixirs, plenty of classic & tiki cocktails, a smorgasbord of absinthes traditionally served, great wine, funk, soul, reggae & rituals of relaxation.
From the drums & the rums of voodoo practice in Haiti & New Orleans to our corner of Sydney CBD, we dedicate our bar to every celebration, commiseration & moment of escape from authority.
A hidden alley gem in the heart of the city! This place is intimate, making it perfect for a date with someone special.
The cocktails are the thing to try here!
My partner and I tried a fair few cocktails here, and our favourite was the popular Zombie. The size was small, but the novelty of the fire got us hooked!
Will be back soon!
Somewhere along Kent Street in Sydney's CBD, someone just sprinkled a bunch of hip bars like glitter on Leonardo Di Caprio's face in Romeo and Juliet.
Among this glistening constellation of bars is Papa Gedes.
The name comes from the Haitian Gede, a family of Gods. Papa Gede is the god that collects souls at crossroads.
It's pretty fitting for this little bar, hidden in an old courtyard of some architectural memory on Kent Street.
Walk down the street til you see a large archway and coble stones leading into a dark alley. Follow the alley until you hear a bit of soul, jazz or blues. If you go soon, there might even be a bouncer performing some magic tricks.
Inside, you'll find tomorrow's hangover.
Go! Have fun! Cocktails are expensive but you should always tip a cocktail bar tender. They work harder to get you drunker.
