Pellegrini's Espresso Bar
Authentic Italian food and coffeePellegrini's Espresso Bar has been serving dinners of Melbourne since the 1950s. If you pull up a stool expect a hearty size of pasta and lasagne. These home cooked meals are not for the faint hearted. The authentic Italian food is unpretentious. If you are attending the theatre or a show then Pellegrini's is conveniently located for you. If it is great coffee or a hearty meal you're looking for then Pellegrini's can satisfy.

Pellegrini's is a Melbourne institution. I don't think it has changed in the last 20 years. The staff are moody, sometimes jovial other times a bit more stern. But they can get away with it because the place and the staff are full of charm. My personal favourite is the lasagna and if you have any room left in your stomach, have some homemade cake.
Our tastes change and evolve as we are exposed to new cuisines and cultures but Pellegrini's is quintessentially Melbourne. Filled to the brim with suits, it evokes a bygone era. Friendly, homespun service with great coffee and a selection of traditional meals and snacks. Although I now prefer a meatless lagasne, the smell of the lasagne was irrestible. The granita is still lovely and the crusty bread is great. In an era where so many people are gluten-free and carb-free, it's refreshing to see people enjoying traditional cuisine that smells and tastes great! It's probably best to avoid the crushing busyness of lunch times.
