I recently attended a conference in Adelaide and really enjoyed a corporate trip to the Winery.
We had the place to ourselves and did a private tour of the winery, cellars and the old cottage of the Penfolds family. The place is rich in history and the luxury tasting of their more expensive wines definitely worth it. If you've never tried Grange or St. Henri or their other stand out wines, definitely pop by. There's a few different types of tours and tastings, and it was definitely a highlight of my Adelaide trip. It's also only a 20-30 minutes drive from the heart of Adelaide and the closest winery in the world to a capital city so won't take all day to do.
Definitely worth stopping in and catching a tour!
And enjoy your time browsing all the vintages later in the shop.
Penfolds is a solid winery - they've been around forever, but to be honest they don't make my favourite wines. Their port, on the other hand, is delicious and smooth and well-rounded and yet cheap! That's a great description of why it's my favourite port ;-)
