Pope Joan

When I last came here this place was open until at least 9:00 pm, however of late it seems to have only become a daytime cafe as opposed to a nightime bar. As such my only experience of this place is as a night time bar, which I did find quite charming. While they did have some indoor seating, it seemed as if most of the seating was in the back garden, including an undercover porch. There were some decent beers on tap as well. It is just a shame that they close early these days because it would be quite a decent afterwork bar.

Came back here recently and found that the menu had simplified so not as much choice as what I was expecting. I had the pumpkin and saganaki tart which was delicious. I found the pastry a bit on the dry side. The decaf skinny late was really nice. It had a beautiful flavour, so I would recommend it here. The had a lovely selection of baked treats in the window and the flourless orange cake looked really tempting in particular. I would come back here with friends for a nice relaxing Sunday brunch. There wasn't a wait time and there is plent of room which is fantastic.

I often drive past Pope Joan on the weekends to see lines of people gathering outside to secure a seat for brunch. I decided to come try this place on a week day instead and didnt have trouble getting a seat. My friend ordered the breakfast crumpet and thought the serving size could be a bit bigger. The coffee was great however and service was attentive. I opted for the asparagus, spinach pure, Egyptian egg and goats cheese whip. The asparagus was a winner, I found it to be well balanced and the goats cheese elements and the dukkah crust on the egg was delicious. This place is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Fabulous breakfast/lunch place with an awesome array of choices, including some you may not see elsewhere. Very reasonably-priced and always packed! Wonderful, friendly staff- they always try to accommodate you.
