As a tourist visiting Tasmania from across the strait, I made the observation that many restaurants and 'foodie' businesses display awards to attest to the quality of their product. Prospect Fish & Chips was no exception, touted as the best in Tasmania by a veritable regiment of certificates, as well as the personal opinion of my esteemed Tasmanian host. Another surprising quirk was that unlike similar businesses in Melbourne, the fish, seafood and battered snacks were all pre-fried and arrayed behind glass in a visual menu from which customers may choose. I took this as a sign of a high turnover - further evidence that we were, in fact, about to partake in the best fish and chips in Tasmania. My companions and I selected widely from the range of yellow shapes, impressed with the concept of gourmet potato cakes and lemon-pepper batter. After dining, opinions were diverse.
