My wife and I love eating Peking duck and this is the place we usually go to when the craving hits! It's pretty fancy the layout of this restaurant, looking like a movie set out for imperial China. The food's somewhat pricey with a full duck and soup setting you back about $75. However, it feeds about 2-3 people. They carve the duck up infront of you so it was pretty entertaining to watch.
This place does arguably the best Peking duck in the city. They cut the cooked duck in front of your face and is quite entertaining to watch. The staff are friendly, well dressed and well mannered. The only downside is the price. It is on the higher end of the Peking duck pride spectrum compared to other places.
We were craving for peking duck one night and heard from a friend that Quan Jude would be a great dining experience and it definitely lived up to that expectation. We found that half a duck was more than sufficient for the two of us plus we ordered an extra wagayu stir friend beef on the side. It is not located in China town and on a more quieter end of the Melbourne CBD, but the restaurant setting and interior dcor (very impressive) far made up for it. Ive been to the famous flagship Quan Jude in Beijing and this is a worthy spin-off from its flagship restaurant. Very authentic experience.
Been to Quanjude many years and found that the standard of food and service is largely dependent on the manager. Present manager John returned to Quanjude after a few years absence and the food and service is excellent.Enjoyed great fine dining with friends recently and returned to host Xmas dinner. Wonderful dinner banquet with steamed scallops and oysters, crab claw in egg white, quail in five spices, pan fried Patagonian tooth fish, sea food tofu soup, lobster with noodles, wagu beef, Peking duck, pea leaves with crab meat and red bean pancake.
Everyone of us enjoyed the banquet immensely.
Best roast Peking duck eatery in the town. Ducks were cut at the table in front of me and some other 20 guests with method that was quite impressive, and the result? - Warm, tasty yet balanced flavour full of mouth. Like very much the way they steam and keep the pancake wraps in moisture, which makes the duck meat so standing out. Yum.
I've tried many other roast duck restaurants in Melbourne and nearby suburbs, yet Quanjude is the best of the best.
There are many other delicious dishes there. My favourites / recommendations include the Wayu (?) beef with Chinese broccoli in black pepper sauce, pan-fired teeth fish, and a few others.
