Royal Albert Hotel
The Royal Albert Hotel is an unpretentious watering hole in Surry Hills. The bar is full of character, with a classic, friendly pub feel, void of the overly trendy crowds found in many of the inner city bars. The tasty bistro food is hearty and homely and there is a good selection of beer, wine and spirits on offer.

Okay, while this might not be on the list of my favourite pubs in Surry Hills, it still is up there (but then again if it was on my list it would have a five). The staff were pretty cool, and they even let me sit in the dining room, which was officially closed, but they didn’t seem to really care. There were also some pretty decent beers on tap, which always grabs my attention. It was rather quiet when I was here though, but that probably had something to do with the time I passed through.
I don't mind coming here for a quick drink during lunch time however it doesn't have the most enjoyable smell. It smells like toilet. The little dumpling restaurant attached to it has a good vibe and doesn't smell. The dumplings are good but I've had better elsewhere.
Royal Albert Hotel is the typical image of the good old Australian pub: a corner establishment in an otherwise quiet neighbourhood, complete with its original old charm decor with the additional olden-days train station furnishings to make the pub a little more alive.
The seating areas are quite limited and not very spacious (and I would recommend making a reservation if you are thinking of visiting this place as a large group).
The pub sells burgers, hot dogs, and a few Asian varieties such as dumplings (as they also have a separate Asian restaurant at the back).
Their most well-known food item is the Royale with cheeseburger served with crinkle cut fries. I tried this burger and absolutely loved it: very juicy and fresh. The serving size was quite large too. To make things even better, they have a self-serve condiments area filled with plenty of sauces: wasabi mayo, Coney Island mustard, amongst other things.
