Give the Royal On The Waterfront a BIG miss for food.
Oysters Kilpatrick were swimming in a Heinz like BBQ sauce the scallops were ok but nothing to smile about.
The steak sandwich ($27) arrived cold and was
virtually stale bread with crust harder than stone
I tried the 300g aged rump and after chewing it for more than twenty times I spat it out in disgust. The salad was straight from a woolworths packet of rocket
leaf, how you can call leaves a salad is beyond me.
The steak ($43) was to be served with mashed potato but came out served on chips. First round of drinks came out correct as ordered, the second round incorrect and returned.
I'd strongly suggest to the owners and manager to visit a local competitor like the Grovesnor on Hay St for their education.
Going to The Royal in East Perth is like leaving the actual world and entering "Barbie's dream land". Located on the waterfront on Royal St, The Royal overlooks a row of perfect dollhouse looking townhouses.
I met my friend Pen at The Royal for a quick mid-week after work drink recently. It was a beautiful autumn evening and the bar area was packed. We weren't able to find a table, so decided to head to the restaurant side for dinner and drinks instead. ...read more
Lovely location but otherwise pretty disappointing from there on.
I thought it was a bit rude to be asked to provide our credit card and sign authority to charge before being provided with menus.
Service was bad. Food took ages to come out, we had no follow up, and no drink service unless we flagged down waitstaff.
The food didn't redeem The Royal. The "Chargrilled continental bread served with a warm spicy mediterranean dip" sounded lovely but was especially disappointing - the bread was less "chargrilled' and more 'absolutely charred to a crisp'. The dip was dry and flavourless. And the Taste Plate was pretty terrible, especially for the price.
Based on the quality of the entrees, and the level of service, we decided to have our Mains elsewhere.
The Royal promises "a memorable food experience."
It was, but fro all of the wrong reasons.
