Sakana-ya Japanese Seafood Restaurant

My boyfriend and l went to this restaurant last night, we wish we hadnt bothered. Staff were very unfriendly and food was terrible. I had a fish dish which looked slimmy l couldnt bear to eat it so l shared my boyfriends dish which was not good either.

One of the best Japanese dinners I have had. The menu is fresh everyday as they list the market fish they have. The sashimi is super fresh and delicious and the sushi is perfect.
Ok the staff are super friendly and the ambience is humble and a more traditional style.
We ordered the California roll, prawn tempura, grilled tooth fish, sashimi and miso soup. My husband ordered the red miso which is a richer darker red broth.
I overheard another customer say "every time I come the food is so good!" And I can attest to that!

You know a Japanese restaurant is legit when the menu is in Japanese.

Best sushi and sashimi I've had in Sydney - fresh, delicate, delicious.

Really welcoming and warm atmosphere - feel like I'm back in Japan!

Only downside is there's not much parking options nearby, but it's worth the hassle.

Would definitely visit again. Oishi desu!

Underrated and hidden gem. Hands down the best sashimi in Sydney. By best I mean freshest sashimi you will find. Do not however order their sushi. It's the only thing on the menu I would give a miss. Service is polite and courteous.

This is a wonderful place to go for a special occasion, but too expensive for regular dining. The fish was incredibly fresh, and everything was presented beautifully. The decor could do with some refurbishing, but don't let that put you off as the food is exquisite. The service was very polite and prompt, even though we were there when the restaurant was almost full. There is a bit of a language barrier with the waitresses if you don't know Japanese, but it is still easy enough to communicate.
