Self Preservation
A creative and inviting space at the top of Bourke Street. Enjoy a diverse range of wines, while indulging your senses in artwork and jewellery.
In desperate need for a coffee while we were waiting for our lunch restaurant to open we stopped for a coffee at Self Preservation. It looked really casual so I was pleasantly surprised that they had table service. The staff were friendly and efficient. Coffee was good - hit the spot. The food coming out looked nice.
I really like the lunch menu that they serve here and often come here for lunch with friends if we are feeling like something that's a bit nicer and not budget breaking. The quiche and salad is a favourite and my friend's ordered the soft shell crab brioche burger which she really enjoyed. The coffee here is great as well. Service could be improved somewhat but it may be due to the fact that it is quite dark in the restaurant, but I find it pleasantly atmospheric.
This is a well set and inviting looking wine bar in the evening and they do nice salad bar and quiche deals for lunch. I've found the service to be a little bit awkward and could be improved as I asked the waiter for water but got a funny look. It wasn't that easy to flag down a waiter in both my experiences here. The outside seating on Bourke street is perfect for warmer days. The lunch menu is quite good and has a European influence.
Lovely little caf with a gallery/shop attached that makes delicious meals with real flair and unusual touches for a caf this small. It does get very busy so best not to come in a hurry and you might need to wait for a table. A very cosy place on a cold Melbourne winter's day.
